Quality Function Deployment is a technique
in which to use at an early phase of
product development. It is simply to "play out"
with the initial quality components and
apply them from different perspectives.
Although I have used this for only few times,
here, I'd like to explain what it is through my personal insight.
The image above,
is what the early product planning looks like.
And now, the image below,
is high-level processes of product planning development.
As you can see, although QFD is generally created at an early phase of project, the chart is constantly updated based on feedback as the project proceeds. In fact, there are four phases to explore the QFD.
The structure of chart/diagram is as below;
I have not yet done "customer ratings", "Technical Rating", and "Target Value". Since my project has not reached the phases of "product", "process", and "ops".
On the left side, you would list up the requirements.
It could be very basic and high-level at this point since there may only be few. The requirements/functions can be "generic" so that in further phase, as you go into detail, you could group them up easily.
Now you have requirements/functions in vertical. What you need to do is to make a matrix. So you would add "technical interactions"
The key here is to "develop" and "deploy"
Below is the sample;
This is very a high level, but still, it is an effective tool to expertise.
I will post for findings and insights as I, sort of, "play" this out through project.
